In the Beginning

This is my first blog post…ever! I’m feeling uncertain about the way to approach this, but one very insightful individual once told me to “just shoot from the hip” when I was frantically trying to write a thesis for an English essay back in university and that suggestion has stuck with me many years later whenever I’ve had to write something and didn’t quite know where to begin. So first, a huge thank you to my wonderful husband, Mark, who has supported me in all my endeavors (not just writing related) and secondly, with my humbled heart as it may be…here I go again…

A little about me…I have been aware of something greater than the 3 dimensional world that we all live in ever since I was old enough to have memories. As an only child the outdoors often became my playmate. Hours of entertaining myself grew into observing the world around me with utter fascination. The dandelions in my grandmother’s backyard might as well have been the Garden of Eden from my perspective. Every single one had it’s own glow and uniqueness. The rocks that sparkled in our gravel driveway called to me…ok not literally…but their presence was magnificent and radiated an energy that I didn’t understand but certainly welcomed; evident by the full fruit baskets of these precious gems neatly tucked in the corner of my parent’s garage for safe keeping. Matter of fact I still have a vase full of some of these stones and rocks today.

As I grew into a teen I became more of an observer of people. I noticed the subtleties about people that others may have missed. This could be observances in their subtle use of body language, change in tone of voice, minute differences in intonation or sensing of their energies and the energy they unconsciously sent out into the world. I learned a lot about people by mere observation and why people often seemed to find themselves at odds with situations around them.

OK let’s fast forward. In my adult years I’ve learned that I have been providing Reiki energy to varying individuals my entire life, before I even knew what Reiki was. It was nice to finally understand why my hands ‘turn on’ and emanate a tingling sensation while randomly out and about in the world. Once again my insightful husband used to say that I had healing hands. I’d roll my eyes and tell him that I loved him too, but now that I understand energy a little better and that Reiki is truly my path, I can honestly say that he was right! Yes, dear. You read that correctly.

I’ve spent the last decade teaching ESL or English as a Second Language. This profession opened right up for me at the perfect time in my life. I’ve had a passion for teaching for as long as my hands have been tingling. In my classroom the world comes to me. I’ve taught adults to speak English from countries all over the world including, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Haitian, Italian, Afghan, Iranian, Japanese and Korean to name just but a few. I’ve been truly humbled by the experiences teaching ESL has given me. My students have a wealth of knowledge and an insurmountable amount of spirit that has left me speechless countless times. I am grateful for them every day. I honestly believe they’ve taught me more about people and life than I could ever teach them about English. I digress.

However, here’s the real lesson…A former teacher of mine once told me that I connect people into a form of ‘Oneness’ by teaching them the universal language of English. Huh! Imagine that. Just like ‘Oneness’, energy itself is boundless; permeating every nationality, country, culture and religion.

It is here that I think I need to sum up. Everything is energy, we are all one and the same. My life so far has been preparing me to see and understand this ‘Oneness’. Reiki now, is enabling me to consciously spread healing energy throughout the world and trust it goes where it is needed. We are all benefiting from having more positive healing energy in our lives. So as a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, I will continue on my path, excited about where it’ll lead, but forever humbled by what it has already provided.
