The weather is fluctuating between bouts of cold spells and periods of reprieve, flurries, rain and utter darkness by four in the afternoon, so it must be December! Welcome to the onset of winter in southern Ontario—always a mixed-bag.
Physically, our weather suggests preparedness at the helm—winter boots or an umbrella at the ready; sometimes both, but emotionally patience is an order—a calm, cool, collected type of response to the extremes in our weather patterns at this time of year; especially as winter holidays approach and the hustle and bustle of the season gears up, an extra dose of pure tolerance is a must for anyone wishing to feel happy, healthy and whole before, during and after the holidays.
The weather triggers foul moods, and let’s face it many of us don’t like surprises—even good ones so, snow squalls, black ice and downpours are severely frowned upon as we’re darting around tackling last minute errands or venturing out on road trips to visit family and friends. And, it goes without saying that crowds and intolerant drivers paired with hectic schedules adds to the mayhem of the season, unless of course, you’re able to take on a more mindful approach while completing all of your holiday obligations.
Our souls beg for solitude and it makes sense to feel the urge, even more so at this time of year, to withdraw, cozy up and hibernate from the dark and cold elements, but unfortunately the busyness of the season contradicts our natural instincts, but did you know that in the magic of one mindful moment you can alleviate stress? Yes you can— by centring yourself to refuel your own level of patience and compassion. And, here’s how…
Breathe, go inward for a few moments and ask yourself… ‘What does my soul need at this moment?’ The answer may surprise you—respect it.
Pretty easy, right? So, as we bring 2019 to a close by ramping up festivities with the intention of spreading cheer amongst family and friends and goodwill toward all, in literally what’s considered to be our calendar year’s darkest and craziest hour, make sure you take the time to coddle your own spirit!
After all, it’s already dark enough out there and earlier too, so be sure to keep your light shining; not only will you benefit but everyone whom your light touches.
Together, everyone can be guided toward a bright and prosperous 2020.
