I believe we’ve all had brushes with the spirit world; a knowing or a chill. Perhaps, a shadow figure in your peripheral or a flicker of light caused you to pause and take a second look? Connection is two-fold but I’m not referring to mediums and psychics who outwardly connect with spirit, I want to focus on your own self-actualization, and how a connection to the world of intuition and knowing benefits your own growth—everyone has the ability to ‘tune in’.
In my novel, Voice of the Red Dragonfly, Ruby Jacobs didn’t pay much attention and/or connect to what she couldn’t see for herself, but overtime learned that ‘connection’ was the missing link needed to aid her in personal transformation and ultimately speak her own truth.
There are 3 main keys to help connect.
- Trust what comes first. Your left brain will jump to action when not instructed otherwise and cast doubts, but what you interpret first is most likely to be the most accurate.
- Set your Intention. Quiet your mind or go deeper and meditate. With patience, things will flow to you—thoughts, images, feelings.
- Pay attention to the signs and synchronicities that unfold thereafter—often occurring as a coincidence, but since there’s no such thing, rest assured that you’re connecting.
Connection and receiving messages don’t come from sight alone. There are many facets of connection; including intuitively sensing, hearing a song or part of a conversation that resonates, touching, tasting and smelling can even trigger a memory or new inspiration.
One of the best ways to ‘tune in’ is to ask/set an intention—before you fall asleep each night. Then try to remember your most recent dream—a dream journal is a great resource. What emotion did the dream evoke? What emotion lingered after waking? What colours were most vibrant? —colours often pertain to our chakras and alert us to what area of our lives need attention. What imagery was most vivid? Did it have a pre-cognitive vibe? All of these will give you clues to the message you’ve been given while asleep.
In my early twenties, I dreamt of my own funeral—an open casket revealing my middle-aged corpse. I distinctly remember the short brown hair and a less ‘glowy’ and youthful complexion—forty-years old resonated with me. Not going to lie, it freaked me out a bit. Was it a pre-cognitive dream? A dream that foretold my future? No, it wasn’t. Once I put the fear aside, I realized that ‘death’ doesn’t often mean literal death, it also means ‘transformation’ and I have always sensed that my life would take an abrupt 180 once in my forties. My dream validated my inklings.
And for a little more context…For the longest time, since childhood, I wanted to write a book, a story about spirituality, growth and all of the things that we can’t see but influence us and decided that middle-age would be a more appropriate time to dive into writing, with some valued life-experience behind me.
My dream ultimately signified a time in my life when I would undergo a transformation. Low and behold, by age forty’ish I was feeling ready for a career change, so began to plot out the beginnings of my novel and as life unfolded I published a debut novel at age forty-four. This happened on the heels of making other major life changes—quitting teaching, uprooting from the burbs to city life and putting daily focus on the written word—pen to paper. Transformation much? Indeed…but thankfully all of it welcomed.
When we ‘tune in’ we discover amazing things about the world around us and more importantly our place in it. Give it a try.
Be Happy.
