Just Be Happy

“Life is too short to live the same day twice.” Can you name that movie quote? Well if not, keep reading and I’ll reveal towards the end. This quote says a lot about how I feel one should live their life. For goodness sakes just be happy y’all!!!

I know, I know your boss is a jerk, your kids are stressful, the amount of errands you have to run are endless, your bank account was tapped out 2 years ago, your body aches constantly, your car isn’t working, your house is a mess, your best friend just….anyway you get the picture. We are all only human and live in a drastically physical world bombarded by judgements, heavy opinions, bad advice, and the list goes on. But!!! I believe we can train ourselves to steal away a few golden seconds each day to not only be happy but spread it around.

I believe we ultimately deserve to feel moments of freedom by cutting loose for a few minutes, and indulging in our passions or giving in to our vices for brief moments of time. Now, let’s be clear here. If this interferes with obligations or someone else’s turf than absolutely NOT. But if you are coming from a place of adventure, that’s not hurting anybody or putting others at risk, than by all means source it out. I’m not necessarily talking about back packing across Europe for a month or sailing the Caribbean for weeks at a time, though in some respects that would be ok too; I’m merely suggesting that people smile more and see where it goes or start an interesting conversation up at work, or sing to your students when the moment strikes…ok wait that was from a more personal list of ways to make the world a happier and less mundane place, but you get the point.

I’m am suggesting we vary from the ordinary just a little bit each day. It’s kind of like putting cajun spice on your french fries versus regular old salt. Find ways each day to add a new spice to your life. You will benefit by feeling invigorated by the possibilities that can manifest by being a little more ‘unexpected’ shall we say or pushing your usual comfort zone. So go ahead and say a few extra courteous words to the grocery cashier, sing to other people while you’re stuck in traffic, high five the postman, save a caterpillar from the road, hug your kids when they least expect it and as a side note, this really produces something out of the ordinary if your kid is a teen or just laugh harder than usual.

“Life is too short to live the same day twice” quoted by Jennifer Lopez in the movie Monster In-Law really is a thought to consider. If we all dabble in spreading ‘happiness’ life would be full of new surprises each and everyday. We’d grow more as individuals and connect more as people. ‘Spread the Happy’ and see where it leads…
