Wow!! The Christmas Season seems to have sprung up from nowhere this year. Though I think I say that every year. It’s already December 1st and that Christmas Day countdown has officially started. With each passing moment the “Tick Tock” of the counter gets louder and louder in my house; especially with a six year old eagerly reminding us all that the BIG day is not far off and surely it is gaining speed and going to whack all of us who are not steadfast and grounded in the back of the head with it’s powerful surge of good tidings and cheer, traditions and family gatherings.
Christmas is a fabulous time of year and I personally welcome the season with open arms but sometimes the ‘to do’ list just never seems to end until the blessed Day has come and gone. Oh I’m not complaining. In fact, I’m very grateful for hurdling over and dodging around all that the season flings, thrusts and catapults my way. It’s always a test of my organizational, managerial and perseverance skills. When I’m not checking off all the items to see through and complete on my list before Dec 25th slides in to home plate, I’m actually relishing in the frantic madness that exists in offices and schools as such places wind down for the holidays and in the malls and parking lots as desperate souls fight their way through the mayhem to secure that one last gift or entire list as it may be. To me this craziness is part of being alive.
Feeling the pulse of energy that invigorates us all to complete daunting challenges and triumph over the adversities that we create for ourselves as a consumerist society, with hearts as big as Santa’s belly. It’s an oxymoron really but its reality. A reality that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon but at least from my vantage point despite all the impatience and egocentric behaviours that are a flutter from now until then, and the pressing ‘to do’ lists that may even have Martha Stewart and Betty Crocker feeling askew, it renews my faith in human potential to fulfill their quests in the midst of turmoil. The victorious human spirit is very much alive folks and sometimes it comes into plain view.
Take a look around, you can see it…It’s Christmas!!!
